Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s downfall at Manchester United is painful to watch

Is there anything more humiliating than losing 5-0 to Liverpool at Old Trafford? To be honest, I'm not convinced it does.

The shredding of Manchester United by Liverpool was the final straw for me with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and I can't see how he isn't fired now. It's difficult to admit that.

Nothing made me happier than seeing Solskjaer succeed.

His position as United manager has been scrutinised since he took over as caretaker manager, but he has overcome the odds time and time again, coming back from the edge several times, regenerating, but this Liverpool defeat encapsulated everything, and returning from the brink appears unlikely.

For Solskjaer, the way in which his team performed against Liverpool was crucial. We could have all held our hands up and said Liverpool were the superior team if we had gone down fighting after a full-throttle team display.

Instead, we were behind 3-0 after 38 minutes and 4-0 at halftime. Instead, United found itself adrift at sea, with no captain to guide them. There was no riches in the treasure chests, only sloppy discipline and defensive submission.

That's why I'm not sure how Solskjaer will get through this.

It was an all-encompassing defeat from start to end, with Bruno Fernandes' five-minute miss demonstrating Solskjaer's control over this United team.
